This week we learned . . . During Literacy, students started their new reading groups about the Wampanoag Native America Tribe. During Writing, students thought about small moment ideas and also filled out a sheet about things they are "experts" in. This will help us find topics to write about during our workshop time. ( I am an expert at baseball.... soccer... art.... singing... reading...) In Math, students worked more on word problems to find the differences between numbers. Students either chose to add up to find the difference between numbers or they used subtraction. 76 + ____ = 82 82 - 76 = _____ During Music, students played the recorder. Many students are completing their blue belts. However, if students are still working on other colors that is okay! Please ask Ms. J to work on your belt with you if you'd like extra time. All belts are posted here on this site. Scroll down!
During Library, this week we earned 3 stars. We were excellent listeners and we had a great lesson. We even used the iPads and checked out books afterward. During P.E., we did a lot of exercise. Students completed different stations to monitor their heart rates as they completed each course. Many students were able to get their heart rates up as high as 120! We earned 1 star! Ms. Coppola also shared with us some NEWS! She is having another baby who will arrive this July 2019. She created a scavenger hunt for the kids to find out the gender. Guess what? IT'S A GIRL! Congratulations Ms. Coppola! Ms. Phillips our Art teacher ALSO had wonderful news to share this week. She delivered her baby this week on 1/24/19. Her baby's name is Amelia! Congratulations to Ms. Phillips as well!

This week we learned . . . During Literacy we continued to dive into our text to find evidence to support our claim. CLAIM: Why do you think Tapenum wasn't chosen to be a warrior? EVIDENCE 1: He was impatient. REASON 1: If you want to be a warrior you have to wait to have a meal. You can't eat whenever you want. During math we played a few adding and subtracting games. . . We also 'dabbed' to our terrific lesson. . . Finally, we said farewell to our research books as they needed to return to their homes.. (the public library.) These books were extremely helpful for the students and they all enjoyed looking up information! Thanks to Ms. Merrell for going to the library for us and getting all-of-these-books! When we return on Tuesday. . . Students are allowed to have a crazy hair style or hat! They can also bring 1 of the following items: stuffed animal, pillow, or blanket. We EARNED 20 stars in our classroom so this will be our "CASH IN" day!
This week we learned. . . Here are some photos taken during the week. . . Franklin the Falcon has also visited our classroom! Did you know that he's on the lookout for students showing kindness and whole body listening? We also had a "new" visitor that joined us to read this week! Picachu told me he loves Diary of a Wimpy Kid. . . Thanks for the book suggestion Picachu! It is always fun to share book suggestions with friends! During word work students studied the Vowel- Consonant- e rule. . . During math students added numbers together by using strategies such as breaking numbers into hundreds, tens, and ones. During indoor recess the students worked together to have fun. . . We also had library in the classroom and students listened to a book. Then the students had to use evidence from the text to solve problems within the story. During recorder students were working towards various belts. Students also engaged in reading throughout the week. . .
Need to practice the recorder? Here are all of the songs we have either learned or are still working on so far. . .
Happy New Year! We are finally back and learning again as a class. This week we have learned. . . During Literacy, we studied topics of STUDENT interest. What better way to understand the meaning of research than to research and learn about something that you are passionate about. . . Students let us know about topics that they enjoy. . . some included animals, space, Youtube, video games, sports, books, and much more! Students then generated questions about their topic and used books from the library to look up their answers! We are still working on this research project and students are really enjoying the chance to learn what they are interested about. During math, we learned how to round numbers to the closest 10. During Social Studies, we learned about a story to help us remember the shape and boundary lines of Massachusetts. The story is about a woman named "Ms. Achusetts." During P.E. we played with scooters! During library we learned about book awards such as the Caldecott Medal. This award is to the most distinguished picture book. During Art, students practiced their primary and secondary color knowledge by making their own color caterpillars. They created circles that overlapped one another and colored the larger circles with primary colors. The middle sections were then colored in using the secondary colors they created with the overlap. During writing, students are now working on typing their narratives using Google Docs. Students have been excited about using technology while learning. Some students even enjoyed some peaceful time on the swings on our playground!
During music when we practiced the recorder. . . we also were given a new song. This song is for the "blue" belt. |
