This week was wonderful. We learned so much. Here is the recap. . . Monday 10/8 No School Tuesday 10/9 On Tuesday we greeted each other in another language. During the morning meeting we used the French "Hello." Each student sat in a circle and said "Bonjour, (student name)." We learned that many students knew how to say "hello" in other languages too. We will continue to add these languages to our morning greetings throughout the year. It is a great way to showcase the cultures we share in our room! Wednesday 10/10 We had a visit from the "Canopy Guy" who is a tree expert. He taught us MORE about deciduous trees and pointed out that we have many Maple trees in our neighborhood. We also did an "on demand" writing prompt. Students were asked to write about a "small moment." Many students wrote about family trips, holidays, and other exciting moments they remembered experiencing. Thursday 10/11 Today was PJ day! Students came into school with their stuffed animals and comfy clothing. PJ day was a reward incentive for our class because as a class we worked together, followed directions, and were attentive. Each time we earn 20 stars, we vote on a reward to celebrate with the class. The more we work together the more we achieve! FUN FACT: Did you know our class has already earned TWICE. That means we have earned over 40 stars so far! (TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK!) First reward: P.E. choice day Second reward: PJ day We also learned more about deciduous trees. During our lesson this day we learned how to categorize tree leaves by shape, size, color, and texture. Students worked in small groups to categorize their leaves into different groupings of their choosing. Afterwards, we also learned about the safety guidelines for computer usage. It was amazing hearing all the students responses. Our students emphasized the importance of keeping our computers safe and also ways to keep our personal information private while using the Internet. This is essential knowledge for our current generation. Students took their musical recorders home for the FIRST TIME on this day! The students were so excited to bring their instruments home to practice the song "Hot Crossed Buns." I wonder who mastered this song over the weekend? Look what I found www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVxmmNh__lI (Hot Crossed Buns- Recorder Song) This is a link to the song and it shows you how to position your fingers too. Remember that your thumb needs to be covered in the back too! Friday 10/12 On Friday we had a special guest visit our morning meeting. The librarian teacher visited our room and even stayed to play a quick game of "seven up." Friday was also the day we presented our "Readers Theater!" Students created their own props and read their lines from our folktales. It was great seeing the enthusiasm of each and every student.
